Traditional Japanese Dance Experience in Tokyo

How about adding a fun, culturally-inspiring experience on your way to or from historic towns like Asakusa or Ueno? Nihon Buyo or Nichibu is a traditional Japanese dance, known for its elegant moves which you may recognized from geisha. In this 2-hour experience, you can learn the graceful movements of Nihon buyo from a young talented Nichibu dancer in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Don a beautiful kimono and get immersed in the fascinating world of Nihon buyo!

You will be instructed by one of the following three disciples of a esteemed Nihon buyo dancer and choreographer of Hanayagi-ryu, one of the major schools of Nihon buyo, depending on the day.

Instructor 1
・Became a disciple of Hanayagi school of Nihon buyo at the age of five in 1996
・Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2013
・Became a certified Hanayagi school instructor in 2014
・Won a prize in the Japanese dance category of the 70th National Dance Competition of Japan Organized by the Tokyo Shimbun
・Played geisha roles in the movies “Lady Maiko” and “Joker Game”
・Appeared in NHK Historical Drama "Sanada Maru"

Instructor 2
・Became a disciple of Hanayagi school of Nihon buyo at the age of two in 1982
・Became a certified Hanayagi school instructor in 2011
・Graduated from the Department of Traditional Japanese Music, Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts
・Opened Nihon buyo dance studios in Tokyo and Sendai in 2011
・Appeared in many movies and TV programs including NHK “Nippon no Geinou”

Instructor 3
・Became a disciple of Hanayagi school of Nihon buyo at the age of six in 1998
・Won first prize in the Japanese dance category of the 69th National Dance Competition of Japan Organized by the Tokyo Shimbun
・Won grand prize at the All School Joint Spring Dance Competition in 2015 and 2017
・Choreographed “Mizu Monogatari” performed in the 1st Nihon Buyo Miraiza=賽SAI=

・All children under 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

・If you feel unwell or are under the influence of alcohol at the time of arrival, you will not be able to join our experience.
・Please make sure to arrive on time. If you arrive late, you may not be able to join us, as the end time cannot be extended to make up for late arrivals.
