Hands-on Noh Theater Experience in Tokyo

Join this 1-hour hands-on experience and explore the fascinating world of Noh, the time-honored Japanese theatrical art inscribed as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. The experience takes place at a Noh theater facility recently opened in a quiet residential area of Tokyo. It boasts a spacious theater with the same roof height as that of the National Noh Theater. Learn the basic techniques of singing and dancing from a professional Noh performer and try your hand at Noh acting while wearing a traditional costume and mask. As the goal of this experience is to familiarize you with Noh in a fun, relaxed atmosphere, it makes a perfect first step into the rich world of Noh. I'm a Noh performer who trained under the 26th generation master of the Kanze School, the biggest of the four main schools of Noh. Having famous Kanze Noh performers as my grandfather and great-grandfather, I first stepped onto the stage at the age of five and played numerous child roles after that. I studied and graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, majoring in traditional Japanese music, section of Noh. Today, while performing on more than 150 stages a year, I devote my time to promoting Noh by holding various classes for beginners and giving lectures on the interpretation of Noh stories.
